Jeonghoon (“Jay”) Lim is a Nevada Center for Astrophysics (NCfA) Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
His research centers on planetesimal formation in protoplanetary disks, in particular the role of the streaming instability in concentrating millimeter- to centimeter-sized solids densely enough to collapse under their own gravity. Using numerical simulations of dust and gas dynamics, he studies how grain size, dust abundance, and turbulence set the conditions under which planetesimals can form.
